There Is No God, Only Here and Now(?)

A poetic excavation of life

There is no god
only here and now

I’d like to believe there’s one
and I think I do

If there is one
It is two: a masculine and feminine

Bright energy
Liquid energy

With the face of a clock
strategically placed.

The shorthand for our brief lives
The long hand for the delusion of immortality

A life as swift as memories of pointing
at the North Star

Or clasping hands as
Twilight streaks the sky with

Rippling orange hues —
An ocean dances with the moon

A kiss on the lips at a wedding
An embrace when I stubbed a toe

The cawing sound of an Osprey
swooping low on unsuspecting prey…

This poem came to me one day when I realized that all things operate from their nature and no amount of praying can change that. I wouldn’t consider myself an atheist though, but I certainly understand why that title exists.

Sometimes it’s great to just observe life and bask in the present moments.

Thanks for reading!
